Standard 10: Leaders demonstrate expertise in recruiting, supervising, and evaluating professional staff members to optimize learning.

Self-Rating: 3

The administrator has done thorough searches to locate qualified individuals to fill open positions. The most recent opening was for an agriculture educator position. The administrator advertised in the Omaha World Herald newspaper, a Kansas City newspaper, a Sioux City newspaper, on Facebook, and posted the position on the Teach in Nebraska website. He also made many phone calls in his search. His actions were successful in finding a well-qualified, highly-motivated candidate. He reached out to area colleges and again made multiple phone calls to find a qualified music teacher. We are a small community so filling these positions was not easy but through searches they were filled.

Documentation of employee qualifications is kept current in the personnel file. These files are updated by the employees as they continue their education and renew teacher certification(s).  The administrator visits and assists personnel who need to fulfill requirements for their teaching position.

The administration allowed a teacher committee to decide on the tool to use for teacher evaluations. The committee chose the framework, Pivot. Pivot is used for teachers to self-evaluate themselves at the beginning of the year and then to reevaluate before the end of the school year. Teachers also set goals. Throughout the year the administration does walk-throughs and evaluations. The administrator and teachers use Pivot to document, discuss, and review evaluations.

Mentor teachers are assigned to all new teachers to help guide them and ensure their success at the school. New teachers are also encouraged to seek advice/assistance from veteran teachers. New teachers have also attended New Teacher Academy sessions at the ESU8 in Neligh. The administrator regularly checks in with new teachers, as well as teachers who have been on staff.

Chambers Public School leaders should continue to demonstrate expertise in recruiting, supervising, and evaluating professional staff members to optimize learning at Chambers Public School.
